Type Talks with Leadership Coach Heidi Kraft

In this 10 part series, I’ll be exploring the path to Leadership Maturity for each Enneagram type.

Read on to learn more about the Enneagram Nine’s type tendencies including: Enneagram strengths, Enneagram likely blindspots, Enneagram Nine’s likely impact on others. And most importantly, understand the Leadership Coaching that can help this type on their Path to Leadership Maturity.

The Enneagram 9: Adaptive Peacemaker

Nines are approachable leaders. They are often excellent listeners, and they are brilliant at understanding perspectives and building consensus. They are typically easy to work with, agreeable and patient.

Leadership Impact on Others

  • I appreciate how you listen to me without judgment.”
  • “Your style makes me want to collaborate with you.”
  • “I feel confident that you will always find common ground in situations.”

Nines have a conflicted relationship to control. Nines may want to align with others, but also need a lot of autonomy. When asked a question, “what will you do?” a Nine may feel conflicted and focus on the impact of their actions on other people. As you can see, that is a very quick way for the Nine to lose themselves and what they stand for. They may focus more on what’s easy and comfortable versus navigating difficulty or conflict. They may go along to get along and then find themselves feeling taken advantage of, which they hate.

Path to Leadership Maturity

NOW, imagine you are a Nine that is aware of the tendency to not speak up and remember that “you matter.”

The growth path for Nines is to step into your own sense of self. It’s about speaking up more and being heard. It’s about taking a stronger stance on your own and on your team’s behalf. You start to set stronger boundaries. You get out of your comfort zone. We all need to move outside of our comfort zones in order to transform into better leaders. Nines that push through their discomfort in order to speak up, stand up, and stand out are the ones that are on the path to becoming extraordinary leaders.
