Your Path to Leadership Maturity

Type Talks with Leadership Coach Heidi Kraft

In this 10 part series, I’ll be exploring the path to Leadership Maturity for each Enneagram type.

Read on to learn more about the Enneagram One’s type tendencies including: Enneagram strengths, Enneagram likely blindspots, Enneagram One’s likely impact on others.  And most importantly, understand the Leadership Coaching that can help this type on their Path to Leadership Maturity.

The Enneagram 1: Strict Perfectionist

Enneagram Ones are organized, structured individuals who are very responsible. Their lens is often on quality work and they have very high standards. They are often known as the perfectionists.

Leadership Impact on Others

  • “I trust your message.”
  • “I trust you to deliver quality work. I know you’ll be responsible and deliver.”
  • “I know you have good intentions.”

At their best, Enneagram Ones are looking for what can be right in the world. They create order. As they get in their own way, they can become sticklers who are criticizing others or even themselves for any mistake that’s made.. Things become black and white for them and, of course, who doesn’t want to be right?

Enneagram One’s often act by applying self-control in an effort to earn autonomy. This can make them appear rigid and lose connection with others, which often reduces their leadership impact.

Leadership Coaching: Path to Leadership Maturity

Now, imagine you are a One who is aware of the tendency to see things black and white and remember to expand your perspective.

The path for the growth for the One is to open up and make sure you ask for other perspectives. Make a strong effort to listen more intently to what others are saying instead of looking to be “right.”. Ones that learn to better navigate the gray and lighten up a bit can blend more lightness with their strong focus and conviction. Ones that stay connected to people AND the facts are the Ones that transform themselves on the path to becoming extraordinary leaders.
