What is CTI (Coaches Training Institute)?
CTI's Genesis
CTI's founders and Thomas Leonard were in an early collaboration that dated the very beginning of coaching as an industry. The two parties eventually parted ways, with Thomas Leonard starting Coach U and our founders starting the Coaches Training Institute (CTI). CTI became the very first organization accredited by the International Coach Federation (ICF).
Our founders' involvement with the coaching industry and ICF from its very inception has resulted in a significant influence on the industry, including much of the framework adapted by the ICF to represent coaching competencies. Throughout our history, what has differentiated us is a belief that both the being and doing of coaching are equally important and a stubborn refusal to offer shortcut, cookie-cutter menus and techniques for "doing" coaching. Our coach trainings have been held primarily in person because we believe that coaches must experience a rigorous and challenging personal experience with a great deal of real and hands on practice, which is only possible in person. We have also conducted all our workshops with two co-leaders, with a small class size, to ensure the personal attention and individualization of the experience that allows each coach to find his/her own unique voice and style.
CTI's Co-Active Coaching book has been an industry best seller since its publication and is often used as text or reference book in coaching programs. We believe in the importance of both the solid and rigorous framework of Co-Active coaching, and the rigorous in person process of deeply understanding it is not in one's head, but in one's whole being. This is analogous to the difference between reading or talking about the best academic book on the physical laws of balancing a bicycle, versus actually experiencing balancing a bicycle in action.
The enthusiasm and ensuing positive word of mouth of our graduates has enabled us to become the largest coach training organization in the world*. We believe our industry is still only in its infancy and that huge opportunities for significant impact on our world are still ahead.
CTI's Values
Co-Activity
We believe in co-active relationships, partnerships, and community, knowing that our impact will be much greater than if we acted alone. We operate from a foundation of respect and trust that each individual has inherent value to add. We listen with deep curiosity and intent to discover and build on each other's ideas and intentions. We create designed alliances with explicit shared expectations of roles and outcome so we can both support and challenge each other in action.
Accountability
We hold ourselves and each other accountable. We honor our word. We show up with integrity. What we say is what we mean and what we do.
Authenticity
We walk our talk. There is congruence between what we teach our clients and how we conduct ourselves. We expect and reward authenticity in one another. How we do our business is just as important as the business we do.
Generosity
We act from a stance of generosity and abundance. Our business and purpose is centered around giving and contributing to each other and the world.
Sustainability
We aim for sustainability of both ourselves and our company. We take care of ourselves, aimed at living fulfilling and meaningful lives. We ensure our company's profitability, so our impact in the world will be sustainable. We embrace fun, joy, and ease in our actions and relationships as important pointers to sustainability. We are serious about our impact in the world, and we don't take ourselves too seriously.
World-Class Quality
We hold ourselves to the highest standards and take pride in our world-class quality in everything we do. We hold excellence as an ever evolving target. In our commitment to excellence, we continually ask for and give feedback. We pay attention to details because quality demands it.
Continuous Learning
We are committed to lifelong learning for ourselves and our clients. We celebrate our mistakes as opportunities for learning and necessary for innovation. We remain actively curious to learn from our results, each other, and our community. We "dance" with what shows up, informed more by what is needed than fixed assumptions from the past. We reinvent ourselves as needed for the sake of our desired impact in the world.
